Canadian Actor Online Turns 10
Canadian Actor Online celebrates 10 years
serving the Canadian acting community

Toronto, Ontario – On June 23, 2009, Canadian Actor Online (CAO) celebrated 10 years of educating actors about the entertainment business in Canada. CAO provides networking and audition opportunities and a forum for actors to promote themselves and their work. The website, established by veteran actor and ACTRA/Equity member Lyn Mason Green, also combats fraud in the entertainment industry by educating members on professional industry standards for actors, agents and employers.

CAO (www.canadianactor.com), an entertainment industry web portal, includes over 2,500 links to industry resources plus active guidance on CAO’s Discussion Boards moderated by industry veterans including actor Lyn Mason Green, singer/actor Theresa Tova (ACTRA Toronto kids advocate), actor Sandi Ross, professional photographer Monica McKenna, talent agent (The  Characters) Bryan Misener, and veteran and star in both Canada and the USA, Art Hindle.

Some of CAO’s 25 Discussion Board forums include Actors to Actors, Politics and Union News, Agents and Casting Q's, Kids (and their parents) in the Biz, Biz Buzz & Re-views, Performance Opportunities and Auditions. Classes and Workshops, Diversity! BG Performers, Triple Threats, Musicians and Composers, Models and other forums.

“CAO was originally set up to combat fraud in the largely unregulated entertainment business. Fraud was and is a serious issue that affected mostly young and beginning actors. People still lose thousands of dollars unnecessarily to scamming agents and bogus ‘schools’ or find themselves at fraudulent, sometimes dangerous, audition calls,” said CAO founder and director, Lyn Mason Green. “The site quickly grew into a national discussion forum that brought actors from coast to coast together to network, share information, and often help each other. We are informal, very social and the information is very reliable,” Green added.

“When we started this project, we had no idea we’d be online for a year, let alone a decade. But there was, and still is, a real need for education and information and there is no other site in Canada like CAO.”

“Canadian Actor Online is an essential resource for anyone seriously committed to the art and profession of acting in Canada. The site also provides something of great value in an often lonely profession – an online community, there every day for you,” said Brian Topp, Executive Director, ACTRA Toronto.

The links and resources on CAO are all free. There is a small annual fee for access to CAO’s moderated discussion forums. CAO is also sponsored by ACTRA Toronto, ACTRA National, AFBS and Theatre Ontario.
