Brand New All-Star Cast for neXt Company’s Rocky Horror Show St. Catharines Ontario, January 16, 2012 -- neXt Company Theatre’s upcoming fundraiser production of the famous comedy horror musical features many new and exciting cast members. Fans of Richard O’Brien’s 1973 Rocky Horror Show will know the importance of having a ‘Janet’ who can belt out a great tune, and a ‘Rocky’ with great abs. Genna Giampaolo, an ace vocalist with credits across Ontario, will be playing Janet. The Narrator will be played by Rosemary Drage Hale, Professor and former Dean of Humanities at Brock University. Additional new members of the cast include Tamera Broczkowski in the role of Columbia, as well as Paul Lewis, a multi-talented regional police officer. We are excited to showcase Louisa O’Keane, last seen with neXt Company Theatre in March of the Falsettos (June 2011, in the role of Dr Scott, a role usually held by a male actor. Carrie Kirkpatrick will be returning this year as Trixie and will also be playing the role of Magenta. Those unfamiliar with the The Rocky Horror Show will witness “a steamy, fun, sex-positive romp” says Director Daniel Abadie, co-Artistic Director of next Company Theatre. The story of the cult hit musical features the innocent Brad and Janet who mistakenly end up at the castle of the outrageous mad scientist Dr Frank N. Furter, played by Abadie. The character unveils his creation, a well-built man called Rocky Horror, and sets about seducing Brad and Janet with the assistance of Riff Raff and Magenta, the other denizens of the castle. The production involves many sing-along numbers, audience favourite dance sequences like the ‘Time Warp,’ and lots of opportunity for the audience to shout out planned and unplanned responses to what’s happening on stage. “I’ve never seen a show where people just have so much of a plain old good time” says William Arthur, next Company Theatre Artistic Associate and actor who will be playing the role of Brad. Co-producer and neXt Company Treasurer Leo Rodrigue states that “With a live rock and roll band accompanying, a fun light show, and over the top costumes, the show is a guaranteed, if riské, good time that played to sold out audiences during last year’s run.” This year’s production of next Company’s Rock Horror Show is a fundraiser for the company’s other activities, which include the creation of new theatrical work, cutting edge musical theatre, and documentary theatre productions about Niagara. neXt Board President and co-producer Lisa Matheson invites those curious about live theatre to “come and enjoy themselves at this fun filled night”, while Vice-President Rosemary Hale reminds that the production will also feature a collaborative fundraising venture benefitting AIDS Niagara. Performances are at the Court House Theatre, 101 King Street in St Catharines on February 16,17,18,22,23,24 and 25 at 8.00 pm and 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 11.30 pm.
